Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze Rector of Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary

Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze was born on June 22 1963, in the town of Tsqaltubo.

He was baptized as a child of four.

In 1989, he left Secondary School #4, in Khashuri.

In 1992, he graduated from Tbilisi Theological Seminary and, in 1996, Tbilisi Theological Academy with distinction.

From 1992, he has worked as a scholar and lecturer at Tbilisi Sulkhan-Saba State Pedagogical Institute, at the Republic Centre of Teacher-Qualification Institute and at National University.

On May 6 1996, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia ordained him as deacon at Kashveti Church of Saint George.

On June 1 1996, Deacon Giorgi Zviadadze was appointed as Dean of Tbilisi Theological Seminary.

On August 18 1996, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgiaordained him aspriest at Sioni Cathedral Temple and appointed him as a Father-Confessor at the Gldani Church of Saint George of Lomisa.

In 1997, he was appointed Dean of the Theological Faculty of Tbilisi Theological Academy.

On June 1 1997, by the decree of His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, he was appointed Vice-Rector of Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary.

On October 14 1997, His Holiness and BeatitudeIlia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of AllGeorgia elevated him to the rank of Archpriest and entitled him to wear Gold Cross.

On February 14 1997,with the blessing of His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, he was appointed the Chairman of the Theological Department of the Association of the History of Science, supervised by the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia.

From 1997, he has fulfilled the obligations of a member of the Theological Commission functioning at the Patriarchate.

In 1998, accomplished the Post-Graduate Course at Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature, supervised by the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, majoring in Ancient Georgian Literature.

In 1998, while escorting His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia on his visit to the USA, Archpriest Giorgi Zviadadze was awarded Embellished Cross by the Legal Representation of the Orthodox Church of Antioch and with the consent of His Holiness and Beatitude, the Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II.

From 1998 to 2000, with the blessing of His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of AllGeorgia,he was the representative of the Patriarchate of Georgia in the Educational and Methodological Board of the History of Religion, working under the aegis of the Ministry of Education of Georgia.

Since 1999, he has undertaken the obligations of the representative of the Georgian Church at the Joint International Commission for the Theological Dialogue between the Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church.

In 2000, by the decree of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archpriest Giorgi Zviadadze was appointed for ministry at Sioni Patriarchal Temple of the Assumption of the Mother of God.

From 2001 to 2009, Archpriest Giorgi Zviadadzefulfilled the work of a member of Joint Theological International Commission for the Dialogue Between the Orthodox Church and the Anglican Church.

On June 1 2002, the Day of the Commemoration of Georgia’s Enlightener Saint Nino, Archpriest Giorgi Zvidadze was entitled to wear a mitre by the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, for his devoted labour in the bosom of the Church.

In 2003, by the decree of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archpriest Giorgi Zviadadze was appointed Director of the Charitable fund “Lazare”, working under the aegis of the Patriarchate of Georgia.

On February 8 2003, by the decree of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, he was appointed Executive Secretary of the International Foundation “Spirituality, Science, Culture, Restoration and Development”, working under the aegis of the Catholicos-Patriarch.

In 2004, seeking the degree of a Candidate of Philological Sciencesat Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature, he defended his thesis on the theme: Saint Gregory of Nyssa’s writing “On Virginity” (a philological and theological analysis).

In 2006, Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze was appointed Academic Secretary of the Commission of Christian Theology and History of Religion, supervised by the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia.

In 2004, he graduated from Tbilisi Ilia Chavchavadze University of Languages and Culture (majoring in the English Language).

In 2006, he took the Courses of Simultaneous Interpreting of the same University where he acquired the profession of a translator and an interpreter.

In 2005, he was appointed Vice-Rector of the Institute of Theology working under the aegis of Tbilisi Theological Academy.

On May 6 2006, the Day of the Commemoration of Saint George, by the decree of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, he was entitled to wear Second Cross and was appointed Dean of Kashveti Church of Saint George.

On October 1 2008, by the decree of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II, Archpriest Giorgi Zviadadze was installed as Protopresbyter and was appointed as Dean of Sioni Patriarchal Cathedral of the Assumption of the Mother of God.

In 2009, he graduated from the University of Georgia, having taken a course of Politics and International Relationships in the school of the Department of Social Sciences, and acquired a Magister degree.

On October 23 2009, Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze was appointed Rector of Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary.

On December 17 2010, the Day of the Commemoration of Saint Barbara, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II awarded Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze the highest reward of the Orthodox Church of Georgia - Gold Order of Saint George.

Protopresbyter Giorgi has been awarded the Orders of the Churches of Antioch, Jerusalem, Greece, Czech Republic and Slovakia.

2013 – The Patriarchate of Georgia – the academic degree of PhD of Theology. (The dissertation thesis on the theme: “Saint Gregory of Nyssa’s Teaching on Virginity”.)
